​Program Overview for Career Soft Skills

The Career Soft Skills Program at Kern Literacy Council equips individuals with foundational knowledge, industry insights, and essential skills tailored to various career paths. In addition to personalized educational services, students gain exposure to practical skills like digital literacy, resume building, and interview preparation. Participants receive wraparound support, including tutoring in basic education (reading, writing, and math), GED preparation, U.S. Citizenship classes, ESL, and more. Each student collaborates with the KLC team to establish an education and career plan and enjoys 12 months of continued support. While these courses introduce industry concepts, participants are also referred to vocational training and post-secondary education for official certifications and professional advancement.

Enrollment Process:

  1. Initial Assessment: Students meet with the KLC team to create a personalized education and career plan.
  2. Enrollment: Participants join their chosen course and begin receiving tailored instruction.
  3. Support: Students receive wraparound services such as tutoring, ESL, GED preparation, and more.
  4. Completion: Students earn a certificate of participation and are referred to vocational training or further education as needed.
  5. Follow-Up: 12 months of continued support to ensure career progress.
These engaging and flexible courses are designed to meet students where they are, helping them advance their education and career goals with confidence.
