Volunteers Needed Throughout Kern County. We have great need for tutors...contact us today!
The Literacy Council is currently recruiting volunteer tutors to help us provide services to our ever-growing list of clients. If you have one-to-two hours per week to give, you can make a life changing difference for a Kern County resident, or residents.
Our biggest need is for English as a Second Language and GED math tutors to work with students on a one to one basis. The Family Literacy program incorporates ESL and reading strategies for parents at many sites throughout the Bakersfield City School District. Tutors for this program teach up to 15 adults and observe parents reading to and with their children. Please help us increase the literacy of Kern County's residents as we are currently ranked near the bottom of all counties in the United States according to statistics for the 2012 American Community Survey, Wall Street 24/7, and Central Connecticut State University.
