Vanessa Atler previously scheduled to be at the event has a contractual obligation to attend the U.S. National to sign books. She has been replaced with Karen Langston. After being a stellar multi-sport star at North High, Langston went on to Cal State University, Northridge where she competed on three national volleyball finalist teams. She was also part of a national championship tea, was an All-American selection, and named to the All-NCAA Tournament Team her senior year. Langston is now an Associate Athletic Director at California State University, Bakersfield.

The athletes for this year's event include:

Catherine Wilson Jones (seen above) who graduated from North High and Bakersfield College before going on to Fresno State where she became the third ranked javelin thrower in the United States. She competed in the 1987 Pan American Games and World Championships held in Rome.

John Hale, who graduated from Wasco High before playing several at the major league level for the Dodgers and Mariners.  He was drafted in the 14th Round by the Dodgers in the 1971 Amateur Draft. John made his major league debut September 8, 1974 for the Los Angeles Dodgers and retired with a .301 on base percentage.

Jamie Cooke may be the most famous Bakersfield Condor of all-time.  He played for the Condors from 1998 - 2004, which is where he concluded his 14-year professional hockey career.  Except for one year, when he coached in Idaho, Jamie has made his home in Bakersfield.  He was born in Canada and chosen by the Philadelphia Flyers, but chose to attend Colgate University.  After an exceptional professional career, Jamie tried out for the USA Inline Hockey team and represented our country in the 2013 World Inline Hockey Championships.  He has taught at Valley Oaks Charter School for several years.

Don't miss out on meeting these wonderful athletes and people Friday, August 14 at the 2nd Annual Sports Night at Luigi's.  There will be excellent heavy hors d'ouvres from Luigi's along with a fabulous Prosecco Welcome Wine.  The athletes will meet and greet  guests throughout the evening, but will also make formal presentations.  Tickets are $100 to this ticket-limited event.  You can purchase your tickets by clicking 'View Product' in the left-hand column.  You can also call 661-324-3213 to order your tickets.

All funds go directly to offering free tutoring services to Kern County residents. Sports Night at Luigi's is sponsored by Grimmway Fams, McCormick Biological, Inc., and Bakersfield Family Medical Center.
